OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The 3-star Aqua Waikiki Wave was an older
budget property that had lost much of its
sparkle over the years until the Aqua Hotels
& Resorts group took it over in 2006 and did
a $7 million renovation. Since that time the
hotel has been turned into a charming
boutique hotel that is receiving rave
reviews from guests and is one of the most
popular hotels in Waikiki. They also were
recently awarded the #1 Best Hotel Value in
Hawaii, #15 Nationwide and #68 worldwide for
2008 from Budget Travel. Quite an
accomplishment for this gem of a boutique
hotel.
Located in the heart of Waikiki on Kuhio
Avenue, it is just a short walk to the beach
and right in the middle of all the
excitement, entertainment, restaurants and
clubs that have made Waikiki almost as
famous as its beaches. Right next to the
hotel is the International Market Place, a
must stop for most visitors. It's also an
ideal spot to catch The Bus to Ala Moana
Center and almost anywhere else you'd like
to go.
The property amenities include a small
swimming pool, Activity Desk, complimentary
Wi-Fi, parking (fee), Concierge, room
service and more. All major tour pick-ups
can be arranged for pick up directly in the
front of the hotel. Honolulu's most popular
golf course is just across the Ala Wai Canal
from Waikiki; Kapiolani Park, home to the
Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium, Waikiki Shell and
the Kapiolani Bandstand is about a 10 to 15
minute walk from the hotel. Almost every
weekend some festival, art or craft show
takes place there as well as free movies
shown on the beach at the beginning of the
park usually every other Saturday and
Sunday.
There are two themed restaurants on the
hotel lobby level including The Big Kahuna,
offering food and sports entertainment. The
tiki-tropical setting is authentic Waikiki
from the 1940's with a menu that features
burgers, big salads, finger food and pizza.
The China Garden Restaurant seems to come
right out of Hong Kong and features
Cantonese cuisine in a lovely setting.
The Aqua Waikiki Wave is not only a lovely
hotel, but the staff is becoming noted for
their helpful, aloha spirit, always willing
to offer good advice on where to eat, what
to see and give you the local angle on
events going on in town. It's not right on
the beach, but then again its also hundreds
of dollars less a night because of that. |
