OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
As its name implies, the 2-star Queen
Kapiolani Hotel recalls the glory days of
the Hawaiian monarchy. Named after the
Consort of the last king of Hawaii, David
Kalakaua, Queen Kapiolani was a beloved
figure in Hawaiian history. In the lobby of
the hotel note the museum-quality paintings
of both the King and Queen along with her
beautiful niece, Princess Kaiulani. This is
an older budget hotel, but the staff is very
warm and helpful, the location is ideal and
although the furniture and fixtures might be
dated, the hotel is kept very clean.
Overlooking the 108-acre Kapiolani Park and
Diamond Head Crater, the hotel is situated
just one block from Waikiki Beach, one of
the world's most famous stretches of sand.
It is across the street from the Honolulu
Zoo, well worth a stroll through and a short
walk to the Waikiki Aquarium which features
an absolutely fascinating exhibit of jelly
fish, besides other sea creatures.
Property amenities include a swimming pool
and sun deck located on a high floor
offering magnificent views of the
surrounding area, Concierge, 24 hour front
desk, laundry facilities, gift shop, parking
(fee), business services, dry
cleaning/laundry services and more.
The Garden Lanai Restaurant serves
breakfast, lunch and dinner and just around
the corner on Kalakaua Avenue, you'll find a
wide variety of restaurants including Tiki's
Grill & Bar, Cheeseburger in Paradise and
many more in every price range.
At least once or twice a month on Saturday
and Sunday, the city sponsors free movies on
the beach, a short stroll from the Queen
Kapiolani. Regardless of what is showing,
there is nothing quite like sitting on the
sand facing Diamond Head with the ocean to
your right and watching the stars come out
and the movie start. There are food booths
from various vendors with many thousands of
both visitors and residents attending this
event. |
