Aqua Hotel & Resorts newest boutique hotel,
the 2.5-star The Equus has been beautifully
renovated and like all Aqua properties has a
wonderful assortment of complimentary
amenities that are difficult to find even at
a first class resort. Over one hundred years
ago, the property was part of a private
refuge for Hawaiian cowboys (Paniolo) and
cattle ranchers when coming to town. Once
known as The Hawaii Polo Inn, The Equus is
located near the gateway of Waikiki, close
to restaurants, the beach, shopping and
entertainment.
Because of the owners love of polo, the
theme of the hotel and property reflects its
equestrian heritage with Ralph
Lauren-inspired décor in most rooms and
bamboo in others. There is a narrow heated
splash pool amidst lush tropical greenery,
perfect for a quick dip after exploring the
island, or even spending the day at the
beach.
The hotel lobby is on the second floor, so
it does require bringing your suitcases up
one level by stairs. But once you get there
you'll find a very reasonably priced hotel,
beautifully decorated, with an extremely
helpful, friendly staff. The Equus is a
member of the Green Hotels Association whose
goal is to encourage earth-friendly
practices that save water, energy and reduce
solid waste, all of which The Equus follows.
So if you don't mind using your bath towels
more than once or your sheets changed on a
daily basis, let the staff know and you too
can be part of helping the planet.
Aqua Hotels & Resorts are known for all
their complimentary amenities and The Equus
is no exception, including daily Continental
Breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries and
beverages; coffee & tea service in the
Lobby; local newspapers; WiFi in all guest
rooms and the lobby; pool towels (upon
request); local and toll-free calls and,
during the season, tickets to a Polo Match.
Besides the splash pool, other property
amenities include a 24-hour front desk and
guest services agent, barbeque grilling
area, covered parking (fee), fax and copy
services, laundry facilities, luggage
storage in case you come in on an early
flight, wake-up services and an Internet
Kiosk in the lobby (fee). The Equus is a
good choice for the budget traveler, those
who prefer small boutique hotels over the
large resorts and those who want to be in a
family-style property where the staff
actually knows your name. So check it out
