  OVERVIEW

Kealia Trail and Access Road is a bit of an oddball among Oahu trails. Located just behind Dillingham Airfield and Glider Port and traversing a wide fire break and popular pig and bird hunting area, the trail along the windward side of the Waianae Mountain Range does not offer the typical illusion of ascending ito untouched nature. Because much of the trail follows the exposed ridgeline, hiking in midsummer can be a burner. Winter months offer a break from the heat, but the wide, flat dirt trail can get very slippery with even a little bit of rain. (Whenever you decide to go, be sure to bring an extra bottle of water.) Given its broad, accessible pathways, the trail is popular with North Shore trail runners who like their courses clear of rocks, roots, and other ankle busting obstacles. Mountain bikers also occasionally use the trail, although riding a bike up the switchbacks may be more trouble than its ultimately worth.........
