OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Among the many influences
that define life in Hawaii are the
multi-faceted enterprises of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1865,
the church purchased a 6,000-acre plantation
on Oahu's North Shore in La'ie. By 1919, a
temple had been constructed at the site, and
then came a college, which is now a branch
campus of Brigham Young University. In 1963,
the Polynesian Cultural Center, which has
become the top paid attraction in the state,
was added to the picture.
The Hawaii Temple Visitors' Center, next
door to the Cultural Center, is a striking
structure with an interesting story. Open
from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, admission is
free and tours are available. |
